How to approach Task 1 (Academic)

Task 1 is marked on Task Achievement, Coherence and Cohesion, Lexical Resource, and Grammatical Range and Accuracy. A strong answer opens with a clear overview, then groups the data into trends rather than listing every figure.

  1. 1Spend two minutes planningIdentify the two or three biggest features before you start writing.
  2. 2Write a clear overviewState the main trends in one or two sentences, with no specific data.
  3. 3Group the dataPut similar movements or categories together rather than describing each point.
  4. 4Use accurate data languageQuote a few key figures correctly to support each grouping.
  5. 5Check tenses and word countMatch the tense to the time frame and write at least 150 words.

Giving an opinion or reasons.
Task 1 is description only, so report what the data shows.
Leaving out the overview.
